Chrysler Repair: 98 Chrysler Concorde LXI - Shifting problem, chrysler concorde lxi, chrysler concorde

Question
I have a new problem wherein, if it is cold, my car (an automatic)will not shift out of park until it is warmed up.  Even warmed up, for the first few miles, it feels like pulling the gear shift through mud to get it in gear.  I took it to my local repair shop, and they said they found nothing wrong with the linkage and they re-greased everything.  The problem came back with a vengence last night and now the gear shifting seems off.  Looking at the gear shift itself, it says it's in reverse, but it is in Park.  Reverese looks like Neutral, etc... I can not put the the car in a gear below Drive at this time (3,L). It is now also hard to put the card sufficently back into park to turn the car completely off..
HELP :)

Answer
Hello Frumpy,
I am sorry to say that I don't have any experience with this year and model Concorde. A can offer to send you the pages from a Haynes manual that covers the car from '94-97 and if they didn't do a drastic remodel in '98 it should apply to yours as well. There is a section and illustration on adjustments and cable replacements for the shifter which looks reasonably straightforward if you have the inclination and tools. Alternatively you could try to get it to a Chrysler/Dodge dealer shop where they have more experience and let them sort it out.
If you want a copy of those pages from the Haynes manual I will be pleased to xerox copy them and mail them to your postal address. So send me an address if you would want me to do that.
