i own a 1990 chrysler LeBaron 3.0L convertable which was recently given to me from my uncle. i do know that these cars have MANY problems (which is the reason it was given to me)because they were made somewhat cheaply because it was a not so good year for chrysler but... the story starts out, my friend decided to be smart and throw a bunch of snow on the windsheild of my car. so i just turned the windsheild wipers on to get it off the car. it did but it did it very slow and afterwords, the wipers "jolted" or "clicked" like they were trying to turn on even after i turned them off after the snow was removed. i checked the motor, it works fine (i ran a direct wire from the battery to it) the fuse i changed, even though the old one was still good, i checked the swithc on the instrument panel on the dash, i replaced with a 1991 and it still did the same thing. do you have any idea what's wrong? my uncle said the body control module (located in the passenger kickpannel of the car) controls a lot of things (cruise, intermediate wipers, etc.) so... the computer is the only thing left i can think of, other things dont work in the car also (electricaly) but i wont get into that. please help

P.S. If you were willing to 'park' the wipers manually, by turning off the switch just at the time when the wipers were all the way down in their motion, you could probably thus by-pass the problem and save the hassle of replacing the motor. You would do this by disconnecting one of the four wires from the connector at the motor, the dark green one I believe.

Hi Zack,
I'm trying to understand exactly how the wipers behave now. Are you saying that the wipers motions are at the speeds you would expect them to be (delayed-adjustable, slow, and fast) and that when you turn it off the blades park BUT that
instead of parking and stopping they continue to make a noise and to make a hesitating motion of some sort? Because you replaced the switch to no avail, I suspect that the 'snow removal' may have somehow maladjusted the internal electical contact parts within the motor that are responsible for the "parking" function. If I have described the problem correctly, then I believe that you may need to remove the motor along with the wiper pivots and connecting arms in order to EITHER try opening the motor for an inspection and possible do it yourself adjustment of the parking switching function inside of the motor OR to replace the motor with another one from a LeBaron wreck. I can send you the pages from the shop manual that show you how to remove the motor and its mechanism, and also how to verify with an electrical test that the motor is the problem and not the switch. Though it does sound like the motor itself is the reason for your trouble, because the behavior remained the same after you tried a new switch. hi, Zack again,
right now, the wipers dont work what so ever, even the button for the windsheild wiper washer doesnt work. i hope this narrows your idea of my situation. thank you for the help

Answer
Hi Zack,
Well that probably means that the fuse for the system is blown. That is a 20 amp in position #4 of the fuse block. But replacing the fuse may not solve the problem of getting them going again because there is probably something in the motor that caused the fuse to blow. So depending upon what happened between when you wrote me and when the fuse blew that might be what is going on now. You may find that if you can't keep the system running without keeping on replacing the fuse you may need to get a motor out of a wreck. Or you couldtake apart the motor and try to figure out what is causing it to blow fuses.
