Chrysler Repair: 2002 Town & Country Mirror, car repair manuals, dashboard area

Question
I have a 2002 Town & Country minivan with electric heated mirrors. The passenger mirror was broken recently. The plastic mounting plate that the mirror is glued to popped off the plastic mechanism that adjusts the mirror that is in the whole mirror assembly. I purchased a replacement mirror from Getcrashparts.com. I am able to remove the bolts holding mirror to the car. The mirror is bolted to the frame and not the door. The problem is getting access to the plug to disconnect the mirror wiring from the wiring harness. The wire is fed thru a hole in the frame of the van into the passenger dashboard area. I can not gain access to the wiring harness from the underside of the dash, however, I can see the wiring travel to what it appears to be above the passenger airbag. Is access to the wiring harness only gained from removing the top of the dashboard or some other way? Hope you can shed some light on the problem. I know it may not fit your expertise.

Answer
Hi Tim,
You are correct about my lack of expertise about the vans. The one manual from the Chrysler Corp that might shed some light on your problem is for the Cirrus/Stratus that has the heated power mirrors also. It shows that there is an electrical disconnect for the mirror very close to the mirror at the passenger side control switch for the mirror mounted in the passenger door. I don't know if the van is set up similarly, but I would imagine that there is a plug very near to the mirror that should allow you to disconnect the wiring from the harness without getting under the dash.
But that is just a guess. I suspect that if you had the official Chrysler sevice manual for you van it would describe and show you pictorially how the mirror wiring is routed and where the disconnects are located. I was quite impressed with the wiring diagrams section of this Cirrus manual.
You might find a copy in one of your local libraries that has a section of car repair manuals. Or alternatively look for "Chrysler Manual" on eBay and see if you can get a good deal on a used one.
