Chrysler Repair: fuel pump, dodge caravan, diagnostic capability

Question
I own a 94 Dodge Caravan and I think the fuel pump went out. I have tested the power to the pump and it was 11.4 volts. I have also checked to see if there was pressure at the injectors and there is.  I also replaced the fuel filter and that did not seem to help. I was woindering how do I drain the tank and is there a way to test the fuel punp once it is out. Im trying not to spend the $$$$ for a new pump. What do you recommend.

Answer
Hi Henry,
I am a a bit confused because you say that you measured pressure at the injectors, and yet that the fuel pump went out. That seems contradictory to me. Is the problem that the engine won't start? Do you have spark while cranking it over? Which engine do you have? What was the fuel pressure reading and how does that compare to the spec, if you happen to know?
So lets dialog a bit more. By the way, there is an onboard self-diagnostic capability for the engine controller which may shed some light on abnormal conditions (faults) that the controller can detect. Here is how you query the controller: turn the ignition switch from off-on-off-on-off-on and leave in the on position. Do that manuoeuver within an elapsed time of 5 seconds. Then watch for the check engine light to begin to flash, pause, flash, pause, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause and make a mental note as the numbers are presented to you. Then write down the numbers of flashes in the order received and then re-do the readout for accuracy. The last two sets of flashes should be 5 each. Then group all the numbers by twos, into pairs of numbers, to form two-digit numbers; e.g. the last two digit number will be 55. That is the code number for "end of readout". Write back with the other numbers, which may give us a hint as the why you are having a problem. But we need to define the problem, also.
