Chrysler Repair: fuel pump, chrysler town and country, pressure gauge

Question
I have a 1994 Chrysler Town and Country.  I am going to replace the fuel pump.  Do you know if there is access to the pump from the floor?
Also I am doing this because the van starts bucking this stopped very temporarily when I changed the fuel filter.  This usually happens going up hill.  I was told try the filter and my pump also could be going.  Is this possible?

Thank You
Maurice

Answer
Hi Maurice,
I don't know about the pump access situation in the Van body. In the car body you do need to lower the fuel tank out of the car to get at the fuel pump. But before assuming that it is the pump you could do two things. First, readout the engine controller to see if it sees any faults. These appear as two digit code numbers. You move the ignition switch:off-on-off-on-off-on, and leave it on, doing this within an elapsed time of 5 seconds. Then watch the check engine light to start to flash, pause, flash, pause etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause, and make a note of them. Then pair them up in the order that they came out to form 2 digit numbers. The last two groups of flashes are always 5 in each, which forms the number 55 which is the code for "end of readout". I would readout the codes several times to get the numbers correct. Then either write back or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html where there also is a decoding list.
The other thing to do is put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail that has a sufficiently long hose to be read from the drivers seat, and try driving up hill while you observe the reading.
I would not go to all the trouble of changing the pump without having some evidence that it is the problem.
