Auto body repair & detailing: Paint Touch up, power buff, swirl mark

Question
I have repaired a few small areas on my car. After priming it I spayed it but the paint seems to be dull instead os glossy. I used a syphon spar gun with the paint mixed at a 2-1 ratio. The air pressure at 60-70 lbs. The paint I used is acrylic enamel. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Ed

Answer
Did you use hardner in your acrylic enamel? It's an important ingredient, and will make the finish much shinier, and last longer. You can try to power buff the paint, but if it's still masked up, if you haven't waxed it, or if its not too much trouble to re-shoot the car, re spray it with enamel and hardner. When spraying, be sure to have a fan of some sort going, and keep air flowing in the paint area for at least an hour after spraying has stopped, preferably overnight. When spraying, start with the roof, and completely cover the roof with paint using 50% overlapping passes. Start spraying at the windshield, go all the way to the back glass. Don't try to checkerboard paint panels, by this I mean do a 2 foot by 2 foot spot, then move on. Spray a complete panel, then move on to the one next to it. Spray that complete panel, move on, Etc. Spray the roof first, then the trunk, then hood, then sides. If repainting this is not an option, you can power buff the finish with 3M medim duty rubbing compound. If the finish has no metallic, you can wet sand the finish with some 1500, followed with compound, followed with 3M perfect it 2 swirl mark remover. If it has metallic in the paint, DO NOT wet sand the finish! Only power buff it.  Hope this helps. Bill
