Chrysler Repair: FULE PUMP, snail mail, fwd cars

Question
IS THE FULE PUMP INSIDE THE TANK OR OUTSIDE?
AND HOW HARD IS IT TO RE PLACE?

Answer
Hi again Lloyd,
I checked the manual for '89 and found that to change the pump you have to drain the tank and then lower the tank out of the car so as to get access with a drift and hammer to rotate the flange that holds the pump inside the tank. Let me know if you want to do it yourself and I can send you the pages from the manual that give the procedure step-by-step. But let me know what year your car is so I can send you the info from either an 85, 89, or 94 FWD car manual.
They usually are similar for this system doesn't change much over the years.

Hi Lloyd,
If you have a fuel injected car then the pump is in the tank. Most all the Chrysler products since 87 are set up that way. As to how hard it is to change, I believe that you should be able to do it with a set of instructions and a modest set of tools. At this moment I am away form my shop manuals (I will be able to look at them tomorrow afternoon)so I can't describe exactly what is done, but I believe I recall there is an access plate in the floor under the rug or seat that lets you gain access to the top of the tank where you then remove some bolts around a plate with a gasket that is part of the fuel pump and then you pull the pump up and out of the top of tank. I prefer to just xerox copy and snail mail you the sheets that give you the whole procedure, step-by-step.
I have manuals for the domestic FWD cars of '85,'89, and 1994, but the approach doesn't change much from year to year. So let me know if you want the pages, and what year and model you are hoping to do this with. If time is critical I can possibly type in the information.
