Chrysler Repair: speed sensor location, cv boot, topay

Question
I know you said you are not an expert on vans, but you might know where is the speed sensor located on a 99' Town and Country 3.8 liter? I asked the dealer and the responce was look for it. This is the last time I will go to that dealer.

Answer
Hi Joe,
The sensor is geared into the area of the transaxle called the extension housing. It is the part of the transaxle out of which the half-shafts protrude. So look behind the engine from the drivers side (under the hood) at the longitudinal location of the half-shafts (the center of rotation of the front wheels) and you might very well be able to see a metal structure out of which the half shafts are attached. On the top of that structure there is a small usually oval shaped plate which has a bolt and an electrical plug in its center. That is the sensor. If you remove the bolt the entire sensor comes out of the structure. If your distance sensor is not working one reason maybe that someone when working on the right side half shaft or cv boot pulled the half shaft out of the transaxle housing without first removing the sensor, which results in damage to the sensor gear. The gear itself may be available as a separate part, and if this is what happened to you you might get the shop that did the work topay for the gear or a new sensor.
Let me know if this is not sufficient.
