Auto Parts: 528i bmw, negative battery cable, mass air flow sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have 98 528i will not take idle, the diagnose shows air flow sensor, replace the mass air flow sensor, engine light still on and car won't take crank, i have to keep holding the gas petal to get the car on, do i need to reset the computer to read the new mass sensor? If so, how do you do that?

ANSWER: Hi Ben,

I'm not sure. Foreign computer controls MAY require the reprogramming of that sensor but I find that a little odd. You certainly CAN try though. Turn your ignition to the ON position with the engine NOT running. Disconnect the Negative battery cable for minimum 15 minutes. Turn off key and reconnect battery cable, start vehicle. If the engine still will not idle or run, record any codes that the computer developes and send them to me in a follow-up question and I'll try and help you more.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information is helpful to you.

QUESTION: Now I have a 92 Toyota camry, the car won't turn over, keep sounding like it's out gas,I have replace the fuel filter, but when I start the engine it's sounding like it's out of gas. What could be wrong

ANSWER: Hi Ben,

You need to give me a little more info. Not turning over to me means the starter does not move the engine. If it runs, the starter is obviously turning the engine over.

Tell me what you've done so far. Does it start and immediately die? Start and idle rough until it stalls? idles but when you work the throttle it stalls?

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: IT WON'T TURN OVER, WHEN I TURN THE KEY, IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE IT OUT OF GAS,

Answer
Hi Ben,

Again, I need more information than that. You stated it ran/runs yet you say it will not turn over. And to me, sounding like it is out of gas means it spins but does not start. A dead battery would just sound like a click or something like that. PLEASE list as much information as you can if you would like me to entertain this question again.

Thanks for the question.
