Chrysler Repair: wheel bearing, front wheel bearings, chrysler concord

Question
1998 Chrysler concord.  The rear wheel bearing sounds like it need replacing and I have been told that it does.  Is it difficult and/ or can I do it in my garage.

Answer
Hi Russ,
Replacing a rear wheel bearing is simple as compared to doing the front wheel bearings. You should have a torque wrench available to reset the new bearing properly, and properly sized punch (drift) to drive out a damaged bearing cup if necessary, and a socket of the same outer diameter as the replacement cup to properly tap in the new cup, and for those reasons a good hammer; and a socket of the proper size to remove the stub axle nut. The page describing the procedure in the Chrysler shop manual (mine is from '89 but I believe the rear on a '98 should be no different) would be helpful. If you would like I can xerox this page and mail it to you. Just give me a postal mailing address.
I haven't had to do the job in my '89 LeBaron, but I have done it in other similar rear wheel situations with other cars I have owned.
