Chrysler Repair: 1999 Chrysler Town and Country AC Problem, chrysler town and country, leak seal

Question
I have a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country mini van that had the AC system recharged at the beginning of summer. The technician also put dye into the system because they were unable to locate the leak which caused the system to be low.

This past weekend the AC stopped blowing cool air. I took it into the shop and the technician had to add another 2 lbs. of Freon to recharge the AC system again. The technician still can not locate the leak and feels that the evaporator may be the problem. If it is, he estimates the cost would be about $1000 to repair.

Is this a fair assessment as to the problem? Is the cost appropriate for the repair in St. Louis, MO? Thanks.

Answer
Kim,if the tech.used a good u/v dye and could find no leak
the problem could be the evaporator-coil,if you have front and rear air make shure the tech checks everything. How long did you say it took to loose 2 lbl. of r-134 ?Dont forget to get a second opinion, call around for prices.Replacing the evap. is a big job, front or rear. Also
at wal-mart,you can get a can of r-134 that has dye in it
and a leak seal for about seven $$$. You can try that if or when the system stops cooling. thankyou..tm
