Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1987 Ford turbo T-bird

Question
QUESTION: "This car sat for 13 years and then restoration started, rebuilt engine, clutch and interior. About 2 years ago I started to work on the air conditioner after that the problem started. To get the car to run I have to hit the key on 4 or 5 times when the car starts I must hold R.P.M about 3000 until engine is warm. At this point the car is somewhat drive able. I felt this was a fuel problem and checked pressure at about 300 lbs. I have rebuilt and tested all 4 injectors and looked at injector on time (15ms). I have replaced the oxygen sensor, atmospheric sensor, temperture sensor, heated oxygen sensor, speed sensor and replaced the intake manifold gasket. Timming and advance seem ok. KOEO test is 11 ok. I have changed the Mpu and problem remains unchanged. Please help!!"

I originally asked question on 02/13/2015 and do not show any response yet.  I have used any and all resources and am at the end of my rope.  CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME!!!

ANSWER: I am sorry for not responding soon but we were interrupted by a stroke and a hospital stay. But the doc says that I can work on my computer now but not do shop work. I did get your response with the new fuel pump readings, and they are in the acceptable range. My feeling is that one of the following could be the problem based  on what you have said I Would start with the coolant temp sensor. These have been known to go out of scale meaning they signal the computer an inaccurate coolant reading. The coolant sensor is equivalent to the old choke. It changes the miture and spark timing according to the signaled temperature. The cooler the richer the mixture and the hotter the leaner the mixture. These ECCIV system Fords were known to have some throttle position sensor problems. My old Ford Pick Up acted as you described and it turned out to be both the throttle position sensor and the coolant sensor. The last item that rings a bell here is the EGR valve. Again Ford had a problem with these building carbon up on the seat not closing right and causing low speed problems. Now there items unless they are completely kaput will not show up on the KOEO test and must be tested with a volt ohmmeter or in case of the ERG visually.

QUESTION: I have tested the tp sensor and found a dead spot. I cleaned and tested seems ok,new part not available. The coolant sensor is new. I have removed egr vacuum port with no change. I have noticed that the vacuum seems low at low rpm. and higher as rpm increase. Is this reversed and if so what could be wrong if I can not find a vacuum leak. This week end I had my 75th birthday my friends brothers and relatives attended we did't talk about my car only our aches and pains its hell to get old. a stroke takes top billing so take care of yourself. WE need you and and our cars need you get better and thank for your help.

Answer
Where are you in Florida. I am in North Fort Myers. Second, cleaning the Throttle position sensor is not an option as .1 volt change will effect engine operation. I test them with an oscilloscope or just replace them. Parts are available for you TBird from www.rockauto.com. The TPS is under 20 bucks. Other sensors that could cause the problem are the coolant temperature sensor or the mass air flow sensor. The EGR valve cannot be tested by just disconnecting the vacuum hoses. There is a valve that seats inside the valve the separates the exhaust gas from the intake fuel air mixture. When that valve does not seat tight low speed operation is crappy. Can only be tested by taking the valve off, turning it upside down. pouring carburetor cleaner into one passage and seeing if it leaks into the other passage. The stroke that I had was an occipital stroke that effects the back lobe of the brain and vision. So all of my arms legs and stuff works, just vision that includes double vision close up. Doc says 4 to 6 months recovery, but here I am banging at the computer answering questions.Let me know where you are in the sunny south. My daughter lives in lady Lake and is a Realtor in the villages. I will be up there for Easter. It will be a great celebration for us as she has been pronounced cancer free after a year of chemo and a radical mastectomy and me still upright and chugging along. I  am approaching my mid eighties.
