Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1928 dodge 6 volt positive ground generator, good luck jack, batt

Question
could please tell me how to wire my 6 volt positive ground generator.the generator has 2 wires coming from it and the regulator has just 2 terminals on it (a positive and a negative)  then i would like to know which terminal to hook the battery wire to .THANK YOU

Answer
Not familiar with the dodge, but I will try. The thing you call a regulator is probably a simple cut out. The battery neg. wire goes to the neg side of the cut out. The neg. wire from the gen. goes to the pos. side of the cut out. I think you ground the pos. wire from the gen.
This should flow current from the neg. side of the gen to the cut out, and then on to the batt.  Be careful when you try this. If something sparks, then I am wrong. The cut out has contacts in it that close when the gen. is putting out, and opens when the gen is not putting out. That keeps your battery from trying to run your gen. as a motor when the engine is off. Spin the gen and try to figure out which wire is positive, and which, if any should be grounded. I don't think you can screw much up playing with it. Spin it and look for a spark.  You want that wire to find its way to the neg side of the batt.  Do it without the cutout first.
Sorry I can't be of much help to you, but if you get a model a I can help a lot more. Good luck. Jack
