Answer
Hello Alex,

I think you've just run into a case of "old car stuff" or the coincidental failure of systems not for any particular reason other than the fact that the car's 50 years old!

Therefore, uncouple your thinking about the problem of how did the brakes affect engine starting to how diagnose a non-operational car. The answer is that a car basically needs fuel and electrical to run. Starting with electrical, check starter and starter relay for operation. Next check primary ignition: points ,condenser, and coil. Finally, go to secondary ignition: distributor cap, rotor wires and spark plugs. As you proceed through your checks, repair or replace any of these components that are suspect. Sorry, unless you're aware of recent service, you cannot assume anything is still good!

Ah, the fun of dealing with an old car!

But be patient, persistent and you'll get your Mustang humming right along!
