Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 mustang, torque wrench, marvel mystery oil

Question
QUESTION: Hi i have a straight six mustang that has not been started in 18 years i have done the prep work to get it ready to start.i tried to get it to crank today but it will only have the fan rotate and after trying a couple times the battery is weak.all electrical seems to work and i can smell gas was wondering what the best thing to do would be.

ANSWER: Ok, a couple of questions. Did you add a couple of teaspoons of light oil to each cylinder through the spark plug hole? Then did you try to crank the engine over without the spark plugs in the engine? Of course the ignition coil is disconnected when doing this. Are you using fresh gas from an external fuel source or are you pumping the old gas out of the tank though the system? Get back to me and we will go from there. Also what other preparations have you done?

QUESTION: i siphoned all old gas out put new gas in  the tank with gas treatment, changed oil and oil filter put some marvel mystery oil in the oil,put new spark plugs in after i put marvel mystery oil in each cylinder, turned the fan with the spark plugs in to see if the engine was free, and put new battery in.This should be everything ive done.I also have another question when i took out the spark plugs the one in the very back of the engine(the one closest to the driver)it looked  very different it was longer and it did not have the arch to make the gap like other spark plugs it had the same number of threads as the others and i put the same new spark plug in all of them was wondering if that could have made a difference.

Answer
At this point take out the plugs and see how the engine turns over. If you can get a socket on the front nut on the crankshaft, get a beam type torque wrench. Turn the engine over with the plugs out with the torque wrench. It should take less than 45 foot pounds of torque to turn the engine over. Make sure you turn the engine over at least three revolutions. This willm make sure that the cam has turned at least one full revolution. If it takes more then there is something wrong inside. Also check the plugs for condition when you pull them. Let me know what you find and we will go from there again.
