Classic/Antique Car Repair: power window motor, 1968 Cadillac Window Motor

Question
Have a 1968 Cadillac convertible with a bad left rear power window motor. I have all the upholstery of and can see the motor way down at the bottom, but I can   not reach it to unbolt it. I have emailed eleven people but no one knows how to remove the motor, or direct me to a site where I can obtain instructions for taking it out. I am guessing that the window channel has to be unbolted so the motor can be moved to where I can access it. Sure would be happy to find some instructions.
         Thanks for any help,

Answer
Hello Frank,

Not knowing what others have told you and after doing a search of my own, I could not find any free information answering your question. But if you're willing to invest a few dollars, I'm sure that the repair procedure would be covered in the 1968 Cadillac Shop Manual and/or the 1968 Cadillac Fisher Body Service Manual. Both are available on-line either in paper and CD form and are a worthwhile investment if you plan to do a lot of work on the car.

Additionally, I'd contact your local chapter of the Cadillac-LaSalle Club. They very likely to have a member who's an expert on 1968 Cadillacs and could advise you any tips and tricks.

Finally, I've found that installation instructions occasionally will come with the replacement window motor. Something to check on as you're buying the replacement part.

Power windows can be tricky to access, disassemble and reassemble because the motor and regulator are often in tension with one another. Releasing this tension and then reassembling can be tricky--try to talk to somebody who's actually done the job before, if possible.

Best of luck,

Bob
