Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1969 Lincoln Continental, car novice, lincoln continental

Question
I am thinking of buying a 1969 Lincoln and am a car novice. Can you tell me the major things to look for? What type of gas would it use. Thanks.
Dennis

Answer
The best advice that I can give a novice is to have a professional, not a friend, check the car out and pay for the service. This will save you money in the long run. The 69 Lincoln is going to require premium fuel and for road use it will live on unleaded. The major problem will be in the ethanol in the fuel as it could cause a bit of a problem in the  soft rubber parts of the carburetor an fuel pump. I rebuild old car carburetors for a living and I use modern rebuilding kits that will not be affected by the ethanol.
Good luck
