Classic/Antique Car Repair: Galaxie Paint, color pallet, crazy colors

Question
I have a 1967 Galaxie 500. After twelve years sitting we're finally starting the restoration. How important is it to stick with the original paint color? Will it take a lot away from the value if I change the color? From white to either black or charcoal gray, no crazy colors!

Answer
Hello Sara,

Unless your Galaxie is a rare model (4 spd. trans,428 engine, etc.), deviating from the original color should not affect the car's value. However, unless you're in love with a particular color, consider picking one from the 1967 Ford color pallet. This way, you'll still have the repaint in an original color more to your taste and will help preserve the value of the car.

Good luck,
Bob
