Classic/Antique Car Repair: 55 t-bird oil bather air cleaner, bottom pan, dome cover

Question
QUESTION: I just got this car. On the carb is a dome and an oil pan. I know oil goes in the pan. But I can't figure out how the air gets into the cleaner because the dome fits tightly on the pan so there's no room for air. Am I missing a piece so that those two pieces are separated a little to allow air in? Thanks.

ANSWER: Can you attach a digital photo or two of the air cleaner so that I can see if it is the right one for the car?

QUESTION: http://www.tbirdhq.com/catalog/2009-55-57-catalog.pdf

This is the t-bird catalog. On page 39 is the air cleaner
which I have. I then have the bottom piece that shows how
high you need to add oil. But when I put the air cleaner
(part 960055) on the pan, there's no room for air to get in.
Do I need a cover for the oil pan and then the air cleaner
goes on top? They have something called a dome cover (part
9600C). I'm trying to figure out if that goes on top of the
pan and then the air cleaner goes on top of the dome?

ANSWER: Pictures of what you have would really be helpful here.

carb
QUESTION: sending pics of the carb, the air cleaner and the bottom pan

Answer
There should be holes in the bottom of the center part of the air cleaner. This air cleaner works on the principle of a maze. The flow of air changes direction direction several times inside the air cleaner and the dirt in the air, being heavier than the air, will seperated from the air and fall into the oil in the pan and be trapped there. I could not open the pictures that you sent to enlarge them.
