Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1960 Ford Fairlane 500, hemmings motor news, ford fairlane 500

Question
QUESTION: The 1960 ford fairlane 500 was a 1 year only body style so it is hard to find parts for, especially the back glass rubber seal. My question is- Is there any other rubber seal I can use so I can install my back glass? Nobody is making one at this time. Starliner is close and has the groove for the chrome trim but does not have the correct profiles for the 500 (notch). HELP!!!!!!

ANSWER: My information is the same as yours, that this was an unusual one year body. Have you tried Hemmings Motor news? My stock answer for “where can I find….” Is to latch on to a copy of Hemmings Motor News, the old car hobbies classified bible. There are many companies that supply parts for old cars and you will find them in Hemmings. www.hemmings.com

QUESTION: I agree with that, but I have been there and called everybody in the country. I guess I will keep looking in the motor news. I thought there would be some kind of universal seal I could use.

Answer
The problem that I have with universal stuff is that it never fits and always look lousy. I have check the suppliers that I do business with and you are right no one is making that seal. I guess just keep a look out for some one who has just uncovered a batch of new old stock stuff, and Hemmings is usually a good source for that. I thought sure that Steele reproductions would have it.
