Classic/Antique Car Repair: Compression readings on ModelA engine, ford engine, model a ford

Question
Jack- I have a spare Model A Ford engine and recently I did a compression check- All 4 Cylinders read about 55. Would this be considered good? Seems like even wear but I do not know if it is worth using as is or needs overhaul.
Thanks for any information you can provide!
Bob

Answer
I could use that engine.  My block has a crack in it.  Sure it is good.  55 is good.  Just make sure the rods are good and tight, check the valves and do what is needed, and build a test stand and get it running.  Good luck and have fun with that car.
