Classic/Antique Car Repair: How to Identify Engine Fitted to my 1966 Mustang., cid v8, mustang coupe

Brad, I have just imported a 1966 Mustang Coupe into the UK.  The car had its original 6 cyl engine with that of a Ford Fox 1989 (302 CID) V8 with 5 spd top loader.  I have various parts to buy for the engine to service it.  Where do i find the Engine Number and can you help me identify what type of engine is fitted from any distinguishing build standards?  Kind regards, Mick, Manchester, UK

Is there a steel tag with numbers on it bolted to the ignition coil mounting bolts? If so what are the numbers. Short of that it becomes a huge guessing game as after 1981 the engines were identified by the 17 digit VIN plate that was in the ;lower left corner of the windshield on US cars.
