Motorcycle Repair: How to change the rocker box gaskets, rocker boxes, torque settings

Question
Mike, i have a 2001 1200 Harley sportster. It is leaking oil on the front rocker box on the left side between the
cylinder head and the rocker box. What are the correct steps in reassembling? I know that the push rods are different lengths and are marked with different color paint.I know that the bolts need to be torqued when assembling. Should loctite be used and if so red or blue.
Are the torque settings 24ft.lbs on the rocker bolts and 5 ft lbs on the allens? Am i on the right track of oil leak riding or just in the ball park? Thanks for you're time
Mike.

Answer
You have a rocker box leak. Remove the rocker boxes. I would do both at the same time.
When taking out the pushrods, you can either go by the color or make them as they come out since thay are different lengths.
Remove the top cover, mid ring and lower cover and replace the gaskets. On the bolts, you dont need loctite. Getting them tight will be fine.
The rocker bolts are 15-18 ft lbs and the allen bolts are 10-13 ft lbs
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
