Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1963 Buick Special, leaks, buick

Question
My brother has a 1963 Buick Special with the V6 and only 4700 original miles on the clock.  He has been experiencing nothing trouble with the carb (leaks, rough idling, etc.)  The local mechanic suggests that he should scrap the original and opt for a suitable aftermarket model.  What would you recommend?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi James:
It really depends on weather you plan to keep the car ALL ORIGINAL. If this is the case, having the old carb rebuilt is a good idea. However, if you want reliable driveability, then an aftermarket carb will last a lot longer than a rebuilt one and most likely will be cheaper.
