Classic/Antique Car Repair: Brake lights, turn signal switch, trunk deck

Question
The driver side brake lights on my 1964 chevy are not working, The turn signals on that side do work though. I went back to the split that is located in the trunk which gives power to the lights located in the trunk deck lid and my test light lights up for everything but the break lights on the drivers side. What would be my next step to try to find out what is wrong? Thanks Ed

Answer
If the directionals work but the stop light does not the most probable cause is a defective turn signal switch. The stop lights and turn signal for each side of the car use the same wire on each side. the directional switch is the splitter for the circuits.
