Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1930 packard, volt battery, packards

Question
My father in-law has an original paint etc. 1930 Packard Sedan and he loves it, but he has not been able to replace the battery because he is so busy.  I would really like to find one for him (without him knowing, why I am asking you and not him)  He has been great to me and helped us out more times than I can count and am never able to give him decent gifts because he usually just buys what he needs.  Anyway, I know it needs a new battery and I would love to get one, but I have no idea what kind of battery and I have been unable to find out, just searching on my own on the net.   Even if you can't answer, I appreciate the thought.

Thanks, Bunny

Answer
Hi Bunny:
The 1930 Packards uses a 6 volt battery. There are many available at places like NAPA, CarQuest, and Battery stores, but the key is getting the right size to fit the Packard battery case. You can measure the dimensions of the current battery and give this information to the store. I have also found that Group 63 batteries work fine, but it's a hair higher but still clears the hood pad, and about 1/2 inch shorter in length.
