Classic/Antique Car Repair: Weatherseal - 1949 Chev Truck Doors, fitting weatherstrip in doors

Question
I have purchased three different manufacture door weatherstrip kits. All three are too thick. I can not close the door all of the way, Do you know of a good product and method for installing the weatherseal around the doors. Thanks, JK

Answer
If the source of the weatherstripping is Steele Rubber - they are the right ones. If they are from an unknown manufacturer, they may or may not be correct - if you compare the shape with the originals and they look to be right, you can adjust the door striker plates outward far enough that you can latch the doors. Then just let the weatherstrip age a while with the doors compressing it, and you should be able to slowly move the striker plates inward bit by bit until the doors fit better.  I don't know of any other way to do it, sorry.

I must admit I am not a body and paint guy, which I point out in my bio on this site, so perhaps a good body man would have some other idea.  What I said above is what I would do in this situation.
