how do i remove the headlight switch from a 1956 buick special?

 I am not familiar with this particular model, but many cars of this vintage had a release clip within the knob, which is disengaged by using a sharp tool up the shaft into the back of the knob.  This is usually the hardest part.  Once the knob is removed, the switch housing itself often has a securing nut on the outside part of the dash which can usually be removed with a flat tip screw driver.  Then the switch can be extracted from behind the dash.
