Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1963 Mercedes 190c, gas fumes, pistons

Question
Have a '63 Mercedes.  It runs a bit rough and won't idle without choke out about half way even after warm up.  Also, noticed fuel seems to be mixing in oil.  (Smelled of gas on dipstick) Exhaust is a bit white and smells of gas fumes.  Any help?  I am just starting to learn about repairing cars.

Answer
HI Justin:
Sounds like you need a ring job. You have gas seeping into the oil and that can only happen through the rings around the pistons. Also the white from the exhaust means the anti-freeze is also getting pass the rings as well. You definitely need a ring job. And most likely a complete engine rebuild on a 63 Mercedes.
