RV Repair: Pop-up Camper Cable Repair, cable crimps, camper one

Question
Hello fellow EE! I am a senior EE major at Colorado State University. I have a 1980 Coleman Brandywine pop-up camper. One of the four cables to lift the top has broken. It frayed on the bottom of the camper just after it came out of the vertical slide on its way to the main pulley system. I think I can  figure out how to route the cable, but I'm not sure as to how to connect a new cable. I need the new connection to be as smooth and strong as possible so it came make it through the pulleys. I am open to replacing the whole cable assuming I can get into the covered area on the bottom of the trailer. What are the best parts to use to make a connection? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Kenny:
I'll tell you, you picked a good one. I have done a few of these and are they ever a pain. As you found, the hard part is making the connection. Some use a crimp type ball, some use a loop and regular copper cable crimps and still others use a threaded piece of all thread that has a crimp connection at the end. The tough part is the adjustment so all cables pull together. There is no easy way. Get as much access as you can so you can see better. Lay the new cable so they do not rub together because that will eventually break one. Good luck.
