Classic/Antique Car Repair: transaxle, volkswagon beetle, measurement tool
Questionwhere do you check the oil in a 1966 volkswagon beetle transaxle?
AnswerJakie,
It can only be accessed from under the car, but the car must be level if jacked up for an accurate check. There is a 17mm hex plug on the drivers side of the transmission case. Take off the plug, use your finger as a measurement tool, the fluid should be right up to the lower part of the hole. If not, it must be filled from here, usually the oil comes in a special container with a built in pump, 75w90w Hypoid gear oil is good.
