Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Chevy Pickup Starting problem, chevy pickup, push start

Question
My dads truck was running well and he tried to turn it on.  the starter would crank for 3-4 times then after it would not crank at all.  It is a 1950 Chevy 3100 216 engine 12 volt all original w/ foot pedal start.  The battery is good and all electrical components work.  I pushed the truck and started it by 1st gear letting go of the clutch and pushing the gas.  There are no carb. problems nor spark plug problems.  I assume the starter is the problem because it would not crank or maybe the ignition coil.

Answer
Hi Richard:
Nice truck you have. Sounds like the starter. Check it first. If the battery is fully charged and the starter won't turn over, then you may have bad/worn bushings. However, normal this doesn't happen all of a sudden. Starter usually go bad over time. Since you go it started the old fashion (push start) way, that should have move the starter bushings from the bad spot and it should start again until the starter lands on that bad spot again.

If this is not the case, then check your ignition coil.
