Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1983 Chevy Truck Lights, electrical fires, chevy truck

Question
I have a 1983 Chevy Truck 1/2 ton that needed a new starter.  My nephew (trying to help without me present) changed it for me.  However, he put the wires on backwards  - positive battery cable wire to the ground, etc.  This of course blew a hole in the side of my redtop optima battery which has now been replaced. Now the problem - the wires have been installed correctly and the truck runs fine .... but now I have no dash lights, headlights, taillights, horn or clock.  The turn signals and back-up lights still work, as do the brake lights.  All these non working items worked prior to him changing out the starter.  The fuses in the fuse box are all good.  Is there a fuseable link somewhere?  What could be the problem.  Thanks, Robert

Answer
Hi Robert:
Not sure how much help I can be, but in the 80's chevy and several other mfg. put circuit breaker switches on vehicles to prevent electrical fires. You son most likely trip this breaker when he wire the starter wrong. I have one on one of my cars underneath the driver-side dash. Yours may be in the same place or on the glove compartment side or even under the hood. I am not sure.
