Classic/Antique Car Repair: a model, good luck jack, generating power

Question
i have a 1930 a model and having trouble with generator when you remove the belt it runs all the time and the regulator gets hot any ideas

Answer
Your cut out is sticking.  It is probably running backwards too.  It is acting like a motor instead of generating power.  Get a new cut out, or try to fix the one you have.  Then, get yourself an alternator.  Most of our club members have changed to the alternator.  No cutout, all electronic, and it will charge your battery at idle.  It is the thing to do as long as you are not in fine point judging.  A stinking cut out is a very common prob.
