Classic/Antique Car Repair: alternator of 63 mercury monterey, mercury monterey, best bet

Question
i bought a alternator that has the voltage regultor inside it. what should i do. my car's original alternaor did not.every auto store i have went to has the regulator inside it.do you know a place where i can find a alternator that does not have a voltage regulator inside or how do i make the one i have work.

Answer
Hi Wes:
Many aftermarket parts have combined key feature that old cars made separate. This is OK, as long as the instructions explains how to disconnect the original voltage regulator. However, if you are trying to keep the car parts original, you may have a hard time finding the right parts. Car Shows and Swap Meets are your best bet.

By-the-way, is your 63 Monterey convertible?
