Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 mustang fuel problem, carb, 302

Question
I have a restored 66 mustang fastback GT with a modified 302 engine and a 4 bb carburator.  I filled it with supreme gasoline a few weeks ago and then didn't drive it for several weeks during which time we had a hot spell (for this climate).  During one of the hotter days, I noticed that gas was leeching out of the gas cap.  I took the cap off and gas belched out and then the tank gurgled and ultimately quieted down.  Now that the weather has cooled, I went out to drive it and it wouldn't start.

Do I have a pressurization problem in my fuel system?

Thanks for any advice you can give.  I truly appreciate it.

Geoff

Answer
My 66 coupe used to do this all the time (in Louisiana)but it never caused any problems with the car starting...I believe that the pressure may have fouled your choke in the carburetor, or possible the fuel pump somehow. I assume the car has the factory crank driven fuel pump located on the lower front of the engine, I would lightly tap the pump with a small hammer to free it up (while starting the car). Also I would buy some octane booster and a fuel additive that removes water from your tank, The gas station employees my not be checking the bottom of their gas tanks for water as often as they should, and you might have gotten a little water in your fuel system. If none of that works go buy a carburetor rebuild kit.
