Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1956 chevy headlight switch, screw driver, small spring

Question
I recently have been having trouble with my interior gauge lights and since the headlight switch is the original one I was told it was time to replace it.   I purchased a new reproduction one and was "confident" I could replace it myself.  To be honest I looked under the dash and don't even know where to start or even remove the control knob.  I have the time but not the knowledge.  Is there a way other than reaching up under the dash to access the light switch and is there a way to remove the knob?  Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks Mike

Answer
Well short of selling the car or getting some one else to stick their paw up under the dash, your it. Now look at the new switch. On the side opposite the wire connection there is a small spring loaded button. Now reach up under the dash after you have dissconnected the battery cable and press that button and hold it down. With you other hand that may or may not be free pull out the switch knob like turning on the lights. It may come out or you may have to release it and push it again when the switch is all the way out. The knob and shaft should then pull out. Once out there will be screw driver slots in the bezel that you can unscrew and and the switch should drop down far enough to disconnect the wires.
