Suzuki: Want to buy early model Sami 4x4, nw travel, oregon dunes

Question
I would like your advice. We are considering on purchasing a Sami 4x4. I don't know much about them, but it's size is just right, & it will fit on our trailer with our quads. We live in the Pacific NW & travel to the Oregon Dunes as often as we can, so it will be used for family riding in the sand & crusing our many logging roads. I think I would prefer one with a carb type engine so that I can work on it. (I don't know much about Fuel Inj.) What model year is the best to fit our needs? What problems should I look for when making our purchase? Can I put larger tires on it to go in the sand & will the engine/drivetrain handle it? What in your opinion, is the average cost to make it fun & user friendly, & what is a reasonable price range? Any & all thoughts/opinions appreciated. THANKS

Answer
A Sami is a good fun car, and you can get a good one for a pretty reasonable price, considering that they are in relatively high demand.  There are numerous modifications that can be performed and a stock Sami can be turned into an extremely capable off road vehicle for less than 10k if you do your own work.  Go to izook.com and peruse the site.  the parts suppliers on the "links" can assist you with whatever you want to do.  You can get away with larger tires by installing longer shackles and possibly a body lift, and changing the transfer case gearing, as you see fit.  Total cost, including the tires and wheels, shackles, t-case gearing and other parts, less than 2k, assuming you do the labor, which is not particularly difficult.  the Sami is one of the easier of it's kind to work on.  I've got less than 10k total, including the cost of the vehicle in it, and it climbs and goes anywhere a Rubicon will go, and with the same ease.  You have more specific questions, get back to me after checking out izook.com
