Classic/Antique Car Repair: cable for the wipers on a 1956 chevy, wiper shaft, spring tension

Question
how do you run and connect the cables for the wipers on a 1956 chevy

Answer
Ok, lets give it a whirl. With the wiper motor installed start the engine and turn on the wipers. Now shut off the wipers and let them park in the correct position. Shut off the engine. Now the pulleys on the wiper transmission are spring loaded. The spring loading can be released by pushing in on the end of the wiper shaft once the wiper arms are removed, and then pulling on the cables and releasing the pressure on the end of the shaft when the cables are pulled out against spring tension. (two person job unless you are plastic man) They will lock in that position when you release the pressure on the end of the shaft.  Then run the cables to the wiper motor and it will be evident where they connect. Once connected push down on the end of the wiper shafts and the spring tension will tighten the cables. Check the operation and make sure that the wipers park in the middle and not the outside. If they park at the outside then the cables are reversed.
