Classic/Antique Car Repair: 65 thunderbird wont start, battery cables, thinderbird

Question
hi,I have a 1965 thinderbird, it has been given to me and I cannot get it started. Everytime I turn the key it just makes a spring noise. I have replaced both battery cables, the starter relay and put in a new set of points. I was told that the starter was replaced before i got it. Should I replace the starter anyway or could it be something else?

Answer
Hi Tony:
Not sure if I understand what a "spring noise" is. If the starter system  (e.g. starter, relay, battery, ignition switch, etc.) is bad, you should get a clicking sound. Anything else may be another problem.

Are you getting a clicking noise, a cranking, dragging sound or some other sound? Please advise...
