Classic/Antique Car Repair: power brake port, oil filler cap, small block chevy

Question
i have a older 283 chevy small block with a draft tube in the back.where does this hook up when i put a edlebrock intake and carb? does it hook up to the power brake port in the back of the carb? or to the valve cover with the pcv valve? and what about the front pcv valve port can that be caped or put on a pcv valve going to the valve cover.

Answer
The draft tube was used to vent the crankcase before PCV valves were mandated by the EPA.   It is open to the outside air, so you cannot connect it to the power brake port- that would give you a massive intake vacuum leak - in fact the engine probably wouldn't even run that way. If you do not have power brakes, just block off the power brake vacuum port with a plug.

Discard the draft tube, and install a PCV system, using the provisions on the new manifold.  The vendor who sold you that stuff should have advised you what you need, but as a minimum, you need to put a hole in a valve cover and install a PCV valve, and then hook that up to an intake manifold port to suck out the fumes from the engine blowby.  Seal off any other openings that let air into the crankcase, and change  the oil filler cap to one that is designed to work with a PCV system - just get one from a post-1962 small block Chevy and it should be the right one.      It may have a fitting on it to run a hose to a port in the air cleaner so that the air going into the crankcase is filtered through the air cleaner first.
