Classic/Antique Car Repair: 70 mustang tranny removal, filler tube, flex plate

Question
i have a 1970 mustang and am in the process of removing the transmission to put a front seal in. its hitting the firewall when i back it away from the engine is there somthing else i need to do? thanks Duane

Answer
The engine has to be tilted back far enough that the transmission front housing will clear the firewall.  You'll have to remove the exhaust pipe and the transmission filler tube, and lower the rear of the engine - support it on a jack and be very careful to watch that nothing bumps into the radiator or the firewall as you lower the engine - you may have to unbolt the front motor mounts.   Wire the converter into the transmission so it doesn't fall out on you, and mark the parts so that you get the trans back in the same place on the flex plate when you re-install it.
