Question
QUESTION: hi i have a 1986 vw beetle mexican import from new the headlights and main beam work but i cannot flash the headlights i have checked the fuse box and no current is there unless headlamps are on surely the car should have flash facility also there is a red wire from the switch that goes to fuse 7 and a green wire of that which seperates to both sides of headlight loom but not connected can you help??

ANSWER: I am a Model A guy and know nothing about your car.  Join, or contace a vw car club and they will be happy to answer you wuestion.  I'm not sure your car would have a flash mode on the lights.  They are probably using the same old switch and it might not have that feature.  sorry I can't be more help.  Good luck, jack

QUESTION: thank you i have contacted vw and clubs none can help i do know! an 87  model have flash facilitie and mine has mk2 golf stalks on it i did out another switch on but didnt make any difference i know fuse 7 is meant to be spare so wire is a red and a green wire on it with a fuse!

Answer
All I can tell you is to try to get your hands on a service manual for that model.  It will have the wiring diagram and show the wire colors.  If you have an ohm meter, you might try to determine which wires do the flash feature, then go from there.  I think you have two switches you can play with.  I'm still just a Model A guy, and don't know anything about your car.
Sorry, jack
