Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 Nova restoration, cyl engine, smart ass

Question
I would like to restore my '66 Nova coupe which has been sitting for over 30 years. The body has very little, mostly superficial rust. The 6-cyl.engine head is sitting in the trunk. I'm undecided on rebuilding or replacing the engine with a small block v-8. I've never attempted a project like this. Can you suggest where to start?
Thank you.

Answer
Start by deciding what you are going to do. This is not a smart ass comment. If you start half hearted to rebuild the six, when you really want an 8, you will spend a lot of extra money and then bail to the 8.

I personally would keep the 6, both for the cool factor and the fact it is a better engine all around.

But you must decide what you want long term.

Then go with a rebuilt engine from a rebuild company. You can actually get specials cheaper than you can buy the parts to do it yourself.
