Classic/Antique Car Repair: removing a-arm 1967 mustang, lower ball joints, shock absorber

Question
Hi,
Me and my husband are restoring his 1967 Mustang. We would like to know how to remove the A-Arm. I really appreciate any response,Thanks.

Answer
I assume you mean the upper or lower control arm - if I have guessed wrong, post a follow up and I'll try again.

To remove the either control arm, you need a spring compressor to take the spring pressure off the parts so you can remove the shock absorber and then the spring, then disconnect the steering knuckle from the upper and lower ball joints.  Now the upper and lower control arms are both free to come off. When you remove the bushings from the inner pivots they will come off.

This is a dangerous job, because you are dealing with a very powerful spring, which if it gets loose can cause a lot of damage to you or the car, so if you are not experienced in this sort of repair, I'd advise you to have someone with experience in front suspension repairs do it, or at least work with you.
