Classic/Antique Car Repair: Ignition switch, ford falcon, lock cylinder

Question
QUESTION: I am trying to remove the ignition switch on a 1063 Ford Falcon; everything under the dash has been removed, except the switch. There is a bezel with the inscription of ON, START and ACC, it has a little protrusion that keeps from turning while installed. Then there is the ignition key hole with an notch where the protrusion fits, behind the dash there is a piece of metal shaped like a cup and made of aluminum (?) about .010 thick and it creates a space about 1/2 inch between the dash board and the main body of the switch, then there is a spring at the neck and then the main body of the switch with wire at the end. In order to release the bezel and allow it to turn, I have to push the switch from the inside outwards by compressing the spring, but then I cannot turn the bezel without turning the switch as well. I am afraid that I am going to damage the switch.  Thanks for your assistance.

ANSWER: Do you have the ignition key and will the switch turn?

QUESTION: Thanks for your assistance.  Yes, I have the key and the switch turns. The reason for the removal is because I am attempting to re-do the whole dash. Everything has been removed, except for this switch.

Answer
Good, I was hoping that would be the case. Now there should be a small hole just below the key. That is for a very expensive tool. a straightened paper clip. Insert the paper clip into the hole while turning the key to the left or accessory side. This should trip a lock inside the switch that will allow the lock cylinder to be removed using the key as a handle. Once the cylinder is out of the way the bezel can be removed. Good Luck.
