Car Alarms: VIPER ALARM AND VALET START, keyless entry systems, chevy express

I JUST BOUGHT A 1996 CHEVY EXPRESS IT HAS THE VIPER ALARM AND VALET START THE REMOTE WILL ACTIVATE THE VALET AND THE VAN WILL START BUT DIES WITHIN 2 SEC THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID IT WORKED CORRECTLY INTIL HE PUT A NEW BATTERY IN THE VAN   THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT
