QUESTION: 352 V8 heavy duty

Answer
Had to go back into my notes from the 60's to find the answer to this one. The left bank of lifters is lubricated by the rear cam shaft bearing, splitting at the back of the engine to a main galley then to each side of the engine. The rocker arms and top of the valves and push rods is rubricated by a passage off number 2 cam bearing for the left side of the engine and number 4 cam bearing for the right side of the engine. This being said we then need to determine if the noise is lifters, or upper valve train.  Now, to check oil flow to the left bank of rockers is to  pull the valve cover and check oil flow to the rockers arms. No oil most probably is caused by sludge forming in the oil passages from the cam bearing up though the cylinder head and through the rocker arm stanchion to the rocker shaft. If there is flow then the problem is lower in the engine, lifters, cam bearings etc. Then it is clean out the passages to restart oil flow. Good luck.
