WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM WHEN THE AIR IS TURNED ON THERE IS A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE

The compressor is most likely locked up and needs to be replaced.  When the air conditioner is turned on the electric clutch locks the pulley and drives the compressor.  If the pulley does not spin that means the compressor is locked and needs to be replaced.  Now, if you have air conditioning but there is noise means the belt needs to be tightened or replaced.
