Classic/Antique Car Repair: ford mustang, input shaft, ford mustang

Question
i bought 67 mustang with a 6 cyl.eng. that will not turn over what would be the best way to tell if is the eng lock up or the auto trans. or should i take the eng. head off to tell thanks for your help rob

Answer
The only sure way is to take transmission out of the car. This can be a bit of a problem as you cannot turn the engine over to remove the nuts or bolts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel (flexplate). You will need to slide the transmission straight back on the transmission input shaft sliding it out of the torque converter. Just one last thought, first drop the starter out of the car to make sure that the starter drive is not hung up on the flywheel. Good Luck
